Hi, I’m Jo!
I am the founder of Joga-an inclusive service, offering yoga to everyone.
The name Joga was inspired by a 2 year old, calling me, eager for class to begin!
I have qualifications in both children’s and adults yoga. My teaching expertise is also derived from 20 years as a primary school teacher.

What Yoga is
Yoga is all about the unity of mind, body and spirit.
Through the practise of postures, breathing techniques and meditation, we nurture these three aspects.
In the fast paced, tech-driven societies in which we live, the mind can become vulnerable to
over-stimulation. Yoga helps us to remain present and to focus on the here and now, putting aside extraneous circumstances. We learn techniques for harnessing our thoughts and taming the ‘monkey-mind’.
With mindful movement, we discover ways in which to release physical tension and to free blockages. Through the release of muscular and skeletal stiffness, we enable our bodies to find freedom and restoration.
In terms of spirituality, yoga helps us to re-connect with our authentic self. We begin to recognise habits and behaviours which no longer serve us and instead seek strategies which support and nurture us.
The three practises of asana, breathing and meditation are therefore intrinsically linked and should all be considered and utilised together.

What Yoga is not
Simply stretching exercises-postures (or asanas ) are just the physical aspect of the practise
Just for ‘flexible’ people-yoga is for everyone interested in improving their well-being.
A religion-although its origins are rooted in Hindu philosophy, anyone can practise regardless of faith.
Painful-in the appropriate class, with the right teacher, yoga can help to alleviate pain.
Only for slim people-good teachers will modify posture work, so that everyone can participate.
Only for ‘calm’ people-those with hectic lives and busy minds usually need it the most!
Just about touching your toes-the right teacher will facilitate a supportive, modified practise.
Being berated for your limitations-the best teachers will encourage non-competitive vibe.
Just for women-yoga is becoming increasingly popular with men. The original sages were also men!
A fad-whilst trends in exercise come and go, yoga has been around for thousands of years.
Like a cult-although you may come across a few tree huggers , you can still be yourself.
